South East Dawesville Foreshore Master Plan

As a city built in nature, not on nature, we strive to create accessible and welcoming spaces for our community that preserve and celebrate Mandurah’s unique environment.
The South East Dawesville Foreshore upgrade presents a significant opportunity to provide quality open space that meets these needs in Mandurah’s southern corridor.
To guide the future of this space, we’ve created the South East Dawesville Foreshore Master Plan. This plan was created from invaluable feedback collected during consultations in 2019.
Since then, staff have been working on developing detailed plans for each stage of the upgrade and we're excited to share these with you now.
What’s next?
Stage 1 works include providing water supply to the site and will be completed by mid-2024.
Stage 2 and 3 of the upgrade will focus on the main recreation and play areas including new playground equipment and fencing, shelters and seating, BBQ and picnic areas, exercise equipment, improved pathway connections, educational signage, revegetation planting and additional car parking.
These elements aim to improve the connection to the estuary environment and provide enhanced opportunities to play, relax, and get together with family and friends. Equipment will be chosen in colours to harmonise with the surrounding environment alongside native plantings which reflect the environment of greater Dawesville area.
Construction on Stage 2 will begin in the 24/25 financial year with Stage 3 to be completed in the following year.

Project History
The construction of the Dawesville Cut in 1994 resulted in fill from the construction being used to create a new foreshore area along the Harvey Estuary. The South East Dawesville Foreshore is the area bordered by Thisbe Drive and Estuary Road, Caddadup Reserve and the Dawesville Channel.
Community consultation for the creation of a developed foreshore public open space area began in March 2019. This consultation formed the basis of the Dawesville Channel South East Foreshore Masterplan, which was approved by Council in 2019.
Community feedback helped identify key focus areas for the development of this site. These focus areas include:
- Family-friendly Spaces
- Accessibility
- Water Activation
- Land Activation
- Improved Amenities
- Environment
Each of these focus areas will guide the development of a foreshore with a unique "Dawesville feel' reflecting the community and environment around it.

Sauna/spa idea + multi purpose deck and bon fire for winter hosted events
I like the idea of the outdoor spa, sauna and whirlpool and kayaking previously mentioned. However would like to build on that idea with a multi purpose raised decking for yoga/tai chi, pop up bars/wine nights/private functions and live summer gigs! Creating a fun, lively meeting spot! For winter months a controlled bon fire would be amazing!! Who doesnt love a bonfire and who honestly has space for one these days. Its a multigenerational engagement activity and is instant atmosphere for hosting bonfire nights for families, teens or 18+ events! It creates opportunity for events like indiginous dreamtime story nights, family nights with mulled wine for the adults and star gazing and ghost stories for kids, under 18 nights for school holidays etc. In the Mandurah Matters vision for Mandurah’s future it was identified that ‘meeting places’ and community engagement was important, something to keep in mind.

A closed in dog park for off lead walks.
An area where the dog owners of Mandurah can take their dogs for off lead walks without the threat of other people becoming upset or playing sports or the dog being able to get out onto the roads etc. We as dog owners have no designated area to take our dogs without the threat of a $400 fine if we don't have them on lead by certain times. We have petitioned for an area for a long time now and this development bring with it the perfect opportunity. Our dogs are like children to us, please consider our feelings on this matter and not just disregard us.

A perfect spot for RV free camping .. Mandurah has none. It bring business to town. Limit to 24 hours number allowed n self contained only

Dawesville Foreshore Master Plan
The 4.2 ha designated as Future Use is of the utmost importance to ensure the relevence of any work to be carried out on the foreshore. The changing of the boundaries of the leased sailing club and the John Tonkin College removes the security of access for non-powered craft (sailing dinghies) to be wheeled onto the beach by hand trolley. Should the planting of trees, shrubs or any solid structure be placed in this area the hazards to young sailors moving or rigging their craft would be increased. Should a solid walkway such as concrete path or a boardwalk be installed the risk to damage of vessels and persons engaged in the carrying or rigging their boats would also be increased.
