Let's work together to ensure the future of the Rushton Park Precinct meets community needs and aspirations
The Rushton Park Precinct is the City of Mandurah’s premier sporting precinct. The precinct is home to a variety of community sporting clubs including bowls, croquet, tennis, AFL and netball as well as the Peel Thunder, the regions WAFL team.
The current Master Plan for the Rushton Park sporting precinct is over 10 years old and needs a thorough review. The City of Mandurah is preparing a new Master Plan for the future use and development of the Sporting Precinct, starting afresh to achieve the following objective:
Develop a staged plan for Rushton Park to improve the functionality and efficiency of the precinct together with meeting the needs of current and potential user groups into the future. This includes meeting the current and future needs of state league competition (Peel Thunder – WAFL & WAFLW), local sporting groups, recreational needs of local residents, and to create a regional stadium capable of hosting large-scale sporting and entertainment events with a capacity up to 20,000 people.
Broadly, Rushton Park needs revitalisation and potential consolidation of provision as the current use of the land is inefficient. A plan to improve the functionality and efficiency of the land use together with meeting the needs of user groups currently on site and into the future is required.
As part of this process, the City obtained input from the community to identify core values of the site and its surroundings and outline key desired uses both existing and new.
A Community Survey for the Rushton Park Precinct Master Plan was undertaken from 29 February until 18 March 2024.
Emails or letters were sent to property owners within 400 metres of Rushton Park (approx. 800 properties) advising them of the project with a link to the survey.
The consultants for the project met with current sporting clubs utlising Rushton Park and peak sporting bodies. Clubs were requested to forward the survey onto their members.
Nearby property owners and sporting groups will also be advised of a drop-in session held between 4pm and 6pm on Thursday 14 March 2024 at the Billy Dower Youth Centre.
The responses will be used to inform the development of the new master plan. It is expected that a draft Master Plan will be advertised for public comment in mid 2024.
