City Centre Master Plan and Parking Plan
Mandurah's City Centre is the heart of our city but what's so important about creating a thriving City Centre?
City centres are important because they provide a place where you can live, work, learn and play within a defined precinct.
An effective city centre is a place that is lively, has varied employment opportunities, retail, housing and allows for amazing cultural experiences - plus ours is enhanced by being on the doorstep of our pristine environment.
City centres can create huge economic benefits for a community as well as increase the liveability and happiness of its residents.
We need a more diverse city centre precinct in order to fully achieve this, and we are definitely making strides to pursue this goal.
There have been some great steps taken in recent times in Mandarah's City Centre evolution...
These include:
- Mandurah Matters community engagement and the subsequent development of Mandurah’s 20 Year Strategic Community Plan, and Corporate Business Plan
- Mandurah Bridge
- Eastern Foreshore Redevelopment
- Mandurah Waterfront Project, with construction to commence soon on the Eastern Foreshore Central and North project
- Events and activations
- Attracting visitors
- Economic grants
- Maintaining green spaces and nurturing our environment
- Making it easier to move around
- Working with private investors
In 2022, our community told us what matters about the future of Mandurah’s City Centre.
This has helped to develop the draft City Centre Master Plan and City Centre Parking Plan.
This work has helped establish a clear vision for the City Centre and surrounds, guide future development, attract investment and help connect recent projects and existing strategic plans for the City Centre into an overarching vision. This vision will capture the aspiration and evolving nature of this area.
The City Centre Master Plan is based on three key themes: Activity, Character and Movement with a focus on four precincts:
- Precinct 1: City Centre Core
- Precinct 2: City Centre North
- Precinct 3: Western Foreshore Precinct, incorporating Henry Sutton Grove, the Western Foreshore and Sutton's Farm
- Precinct 4: Marina Commercial/Residential
The Master Plan will focus on the bigger picture and how the precincts will help achieve the shared vision for the City Centre.
The feedback that we have received has been pivotal in helping us shape the draft plans and vision for our City Centre that will be presented to Council for consideration in early 2024.
We asked the community to have their say on the draft plans by Monday, 4 March 2024.
