See below for some Frequently Asked Questions.

Why is the City upgrading Peel Street?

Peel Street is a significant entry road to Mandurah, and we know it's an important link to the City Centre. To future-proof this road and improve the street amenity, the City will be reconstructing the road, improving pedestrian and cyclist access, and enhancing street lighting and landscaping.

What is the extent of works?

The project will complete road rehabilitation and upgrade works of Peel Street between Anstruther Road and Sutton Road.

What will the road look like?

Peel Street will be widened to accommodate a central median and a traffic lane in each direction, in addition to on-street parking, shared paths and landscaping. The cross-section of the road is shown below.

Will any intersections be modified?

All the existing intersections with Peel Street, including Randell Street, Chepstow Drive and Forrest Street, will continue to operate as full-movement intersections.

Will additional parking be created?

Yes, on-road parallel parking will be constructed. However, this will not interfere with access to any properties.

Will the street lighting be upgraded?

Yes, street lighting will be installed in the centre of the road, and on the verges at the road intersections. All street lighting will be designed to meet the Australian Standards for street lighting.

Will I still be able to access my property after the road upgrades?

Yes. Following construction, all properties will be accessible by driveway crossover from either direction as before.

Will the project include improvements to the street landscaping?

Yes, the City will be completing street landscaping improvements and these works have been planned once the road works have been completed. This will include native waterwise trees.

Have bus stops been considered in the design?

Yes, dedicated bus stops are included in the design for Peel Street, in both directions. The improved bus stops will be constructed during the delivery of the works.

Will the works include improved pedestrian facilities?

Yes, Peel Street will have a shared pathway on the north side of the road, and a dedicated pedestrian footpath on the south side of the road.

How has the City future-proofed Peel Street?

The City has ensured that Peel Street can accommodate increases in traffic volumes that may occur as the City continues to grow. Undergrounding of power, and relocation of services, including water mains, NBN and Telstra means that in the future, an additional lane in each direction will be able to be easily constructed. However, this is not expected to be required within the next 20 years.

Will the road need to be closed during construction?

Works are planned to be delivered in stages to minimise disruption to traffic as much as possible, however there may be times where a road closure will be the safest and most efficient way to complete the project. However, local residents will continue to be able to access their properties at all times during the duration of the project. Businesses will still be able to operate and customers will be able to access businesses during the duration of the project.

Why is the road under construction again?

To complete the full road rehabilitation and upgrade works planned for Peel Street. The initial construction was to facilitate the land acquisition and the service relocations. Now the full upgrade will be completed.

Why has the final stage of upgrades been scheduled to start now during the busy summer period?

The final stage of upgrades has been started now to take advantage of the favourable weather conditions during the summer months.

How long is it expected to take to complete the road upgrade works?

The project is expected to commence November 2023. During that time, the different phases of the total project will be delivered. It is expected that all works will be completed by August 2024.
