Why is this park being upgraded?

This park has been identified as a priority neighbourhood park to improve. The existing facilities need a refresh to support a community connection to the space. The aim is to create a usable, functional space for the recreational needs of the community while preserving and enhancing the remnant native Tuart tree population in the park for positive visual amenity and biodiversity.

What kind of input are you looking for?

We want to hear your thoughts about Blythwood Reserve. What's good or bad about it? How do you like to use this space and why? Or if you don't use the space, why not? Why do you value this space or others like it? We will choose specific design elements which align with suggestions and values identified.

What changes will be made and why?

Currently lacking in the park are items such as play elements, paths, seating and picnic facilities. Improvements to the grass surface and planted areas could also be made.

Will our rates be increased to pay for the development?

No, rates will not be increased in the area to pay for the park development. Your current rates contribution determines the City's budget and upgrades to this park will align with this budget.

Will existing trees be removed and will new trees be planted?

The plan aims to retain and improve the native bushland on the site by limiting the removal of trees and including new plantings. We will also consider the community’s perspective on where you would like to see more trees or what kind of trees you would like to see planted.

What if I like the park as it is and don't want to see any changes?

Previous community consultation has shown that our community wants more activated parks and spaces for a better Mandurah, and we agree. But if you like the current park the way it is and don't want to see any changes, we still want to know. We want to know what are the most loved aspects of this space so we can retain or enhance them. All feedback from our community is extremely valuable and will be taken into consideration during the design process.

    What happens next?

We will be gathering input from the online and mail survey and a drop-in session with City staff will be held if there is sufficient interest.

The community ideas and needs we hear will be developed into a concept design by a landscape architect. This will be presented back to the community for feedback, before being amended as required and implemented.

The installation stage will be dependent on what the final design contains, updates will be provided on the main page.

What is the budget for the renewal?

There is a fixed budget of $300,000 for the upgrade for the 2023/2024 financial year.

This covers improvements to the wider park area and could be anything from earthworks, walls, paths, furniture, shelters and anything else you might like to see in the park that fits within this budget.
